Soundtrack

This is the middle part of our soundtrack so far and I created it in garage band using pianos, guitars, shakers and strings. The group has decided that we would like the beginning part to start soft but then quickly merge into this track and then get louder towards the end to create a sense of fear. That's how we intend to improve this track.

Se7en.

We are planning to use many aspects of the film 'Se7en' when doing our thriller opening. We like the way there are many short clips of footage as the choppy switching of shots make the piece seem unnerving. You really don't know what the next shot will include and this makes the viewer want to watch more. The static background noise and screeching helps set the mood of the film from the word go along with the type of font used and the transitional effects. It is clear that this film is not meant for the light hearted right from the beginning. It would be great if our film could do this in a similar way.

Continuity Task

This is our continuity task. It shows the different shots and how we can apply them into our own piece. I feel we included all the correct shots and from feedback we found out that all our shots could be clearly seen. I do feel that we could make the close up shot more obvious if we were to do it again. Also we could make the conversation more fluent and realistic and we could make a proper script. This would make the whole piece feel more realistic and it would work better as a piece. In some places the lighting didn't work too well and in the future we should take this into account. Overall, i do feel for a first attempt we worked to our best and this showed in the piece.

'Derilium Tremens' Analysis.

The opening thriller sequence I have chosen to review is 'Derilium Tremens'. I have chosen this sequence because I really enjoyed the mysterious feel to it, and how it leaves you wanting more. The fact that there is no colour and it's shot in black and white immediately gives off an eerie effect to the sequence and you know that something isn't quite right. At the beginning of the sequence there is a shot of a chimney smoking and a panned shot over houses and buildings continuing with several areas such as a car park which are very isolated making the scene feel disturbed and distressed.

In the next shot we're introduced to two characters who appear harmless, and the music begins - creating a creepy atmosphere which contrasts with the characters normal behaviour. The sudden flashbacks of a previous time, create an effective ambiance in which reveals that something's wrong and the dark colours look good contrasted with the black and white shots.

My favourite part of the sequence is when one of the characters opens up the boot of the car and the viewer can see that it's from the person in the boots point of view, which lets the viewer know that somebody is in the boot, revealing the plot of the film.

'The Drop' Analysis.

The work i will be commenting on is "The Drop". I think the general idea the trailer is trying to portray is that there is a briefcase which is highly important. One guy is being chased by the other in order to get the briefcase. The story line is quite basic which is good for opening trailers as there isn't too much going on, however, i do feel the group could have gone more into the story as at times it seemed like there was too much focus on the guys running down the stairs and it got a bit repetitive.

The music fitted well and the fast pace work well alongside the rushing around from the characters in the piece. I liked how the music changed slightly when the titles were up on screen, this gave the faster pace music more impact. There was a large number of shots included which altogether fitted in well and they were all used at the correct time. I do feel that there should have been a shot where the face of the main character could be seen as there was a lot of rushing around. When the main film starts it will be hard for the watcher to pick out which character was which in the opening section.

There is a great reaction shot found at 34 seconds where the timing is very well fitted with the audio and visual. Most of the scenes are filmed with a dark coloured filter which creates a eery mood. The camera is used well and is steady when needed and not steady when there is frustration by the character and when he is running. This works very well. Overall it does make the viewer wonder what is in the briefcase that is so important and would most likely make them want to keep watching.
